Well, it couldn't hurt, according to a former Democratic House Leader and spokeswoman for Reform Michigan Government Now. Dianne Byrum was quoted in the Lansing State Journal as saying "This proposal is not about any one individual in elective office today. This is about creating a state government that works for people." Byrum believes this proposal is just the prescription we need to reduce the high cost of government.

As a life-long Republican and treasurer for Reform Michigan Government Now, Harland Nye believes that he is helping to "change our broken government," and that "many of these ideas have been espoused by prominent Republican leaders for years."

This proposal would reorganize the Michigan courts by shrinking appellate courts, whose case load is down by 25%, and adding local judges where they are needed.

Additionally, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General would have their salaries cut by 25%. Absentee ballots would be available for any reason and campaign finance laws would be toughened and improved to increase openness.

Who could argue with any of these changes? Beware of the onslaught of TV ads paid for by big business. This is a great opportunity for people - let's support this proposal.

"Who could argue with any of these changes?"

Apparently, a lot of Democratic lawmakers who stand to lose their jobs if the legislature is cut and don't like the fact the Democrat-led campaign was so secretive.

Hopefully, this naked a partisan court grab won't make the ballot.

From what I have seen all the judges that stand to lose their job are Republicans.

The amazing thing about the RMGN proposal is that all these ideas --cutting government, cutting the size of the Legislature, cutting salary and benefits for elected officials, setting up a non-partisan redistricting committee,etc-- all seem to reflect Republican values. If the GOP were not making such a nasty fuss about the proposal, and if the Democrat lawmakers were not complaining so much about getting their pay cut, I'd suspect the GOP was secretly running the machine behind the scenes.

The Reform Michigan Government Now petition would:

1. Reduce the number of Supreme Court and Court of Appeals justices in response to a diminished caseload while adding 10 new judges to the Circuit Courts which have seen an increase.

2. Have all elected state officials file annual financial disclosures.

3. Have a two year waiting period before an elected official can lobby after leaving office.

4. Prohibit a state judge from hearing a case in which they have a personal or financial interest.

5. Require a public roll-call vote on decisions by lawmakers in committee meetings. No more “secret” votes.

6. Eliminate partisanship during redistricting regardless of which party is in control at the time.

7. Reduce the size of our bloated legislature by reducing the number of senators from 38 to 28 and the number of representatives from 110 to 82.

8. Roll back the 38% pay increase legislators gave themselves without public comment, which made them the second highest paid in the nation.

9. Have all elected officials participate in the same health and retirement plan as state civil servants.
Michigan’s government is broken! The RMGN ballot proposal attempts to pull Michigan out of the political and economic gutter. Since our elected officials refuse to lead on needed reform, they should get behind the RMGN proposal and let the People of Michigan decide in November.

Looks like the Unions and Democrats are behind this. Do a search for this and ad power point. There is a power point presentation showing how the Democrats can take over all offices of the state.

This is a scam by the Democrats.
