According to a poll of attorneys who have practiced before the Michigan Supreme Court in the past six years, Justice Cliff Taylor is second to last in terms of overall performance. This will come to no surprise to anyone who has followed decisions coming out of the Michigan Supreme Court since Justice Taylor has been on the court. Justice Cliff Taylor has issued decisions that have limited an individuals ability to have a court intervene in environmental destruction claims, personal injury related to auto accidents and slip and falls, and free speech, to name only a few.
There is one thing the legal community can agree with in regards to Justice Cliff Taylor: he does not make the grade. But what can be done about this? Well, Supreme Court Justices in Michigan are elected to eight (8) year terms. This year is the first time in a long while where only one Justice is up for re-election, and that Justice is Cliff Taylor.
Have you ever been injured after slipping on snow or ice, only to be told that you could not recover because the danger was open and obvious? What about being told by a court that your injuries related to an auto accident were not serious enough to merit compensation? You can partially thank Cliff Taylor for denying you the opportunity to have your case heard by a jury of your peers.
An election is the only chance the citizens of Michigan have to evaluate a Michigan Supreme Court Justice's job performance, and that only occurs every eight years when the Justices' term is up. The legal community in Michigan agrees that Justice Taylor is failing at the performance of his job duties. Remember that when it comes time to cast your ballot.
