After the first significant snowfall hit Michigan over the past weekend, salt trucks struggled to salt roads before life threatening accidents ensued. Two men were killed in Clinton County after temperatures suddenly dropped on Sunday afternoon, creating dangerous conditions on overpasses. The two men were headed down Clark Rd. when they reached the Interstate 127 overpass. Their pickup truck lost control, crossed over the centerline and struck a van. The 22-year old driver and the 19-year old passenger were both killed in the collision. Two children, ages 9 and 11, who were passengers in the van, were admitted to Sparrow Hospital. One of the children remains in critical condition.

An icy road in Oakland County is now blamed for the death of another teen on Monday evening. 18-year old Casey Blays was driving his pickup down Holly Road when he his vehicle slid of the road and into a four to five feet deep pond. His 19-year old passenger, Dante Miller, did not survive the crash and Casey Blays remains in critical condition.

While Michigan residents and Midwesterners are used to braving the unsafe winter drivingconditions every year, it is always important to take necessary precautions. Winter road conditions are often worse than they seem, and two basic steps, buckling up and driving slowly, will certainly increase your chances of survival during the winter season.
