The area between M-15 and I-69, known as death alley, has claimed the life of Jessica M. Bannon. Jessica was a 14-year-old, Lapeer West High School Freshman who was riding in the backseat of a pick-up truck driven by her 17-year-old brother when he swerved to avoid a stopped car and crashed head-on into an SUV.

The woman driving the SUV was injured badly and is still in critical condition at an Oakland County Hospital. Jessica’s brother suffered from broken bones, but the 18-year-old passenger of the pick-up truck was not seriously hurt.

The stretch of road has claimed the lives of 14 people since 2004. Government officials recognize the safety issues the narrow stretch of road leads to, but have yet to take remedial steps to fix the problem.

Bad drivers and bad roads are a bad combination. Car crashes are increasing it seems. My thoughts go out to Jessica Bannon's family
