A comment on Nine-Year-Old Florida Girl Nearly Dies from Misdiagnosed H1N1 Virus

David, I was just informed by a friend of a friend, that her 20 year son did not wake up Thanksgiving Day. He apparently had the H1N1 two weeks prior but was still having trouble breathing even though there were no other symptoms - Mother thought the breathing symptoms were not significant. Autopsy was negative - no illicit drugs involved. Son said "good night" to Mother the night before his demise. One cannot be too careful when H1N1 is suspected. Just thought I'd point this out, that if anyone is having breathing problems, pneumonia has to be ruled out. This scenario is very tragic and probably could have been prevented. I sincerely hope my writing prevents one more death to H1N1. Thank you.

A comment on Pharmaceutical Companies Use Rx Data Mining to Boost Sales Tactics, Patient Advocates Argue

This is a disgusting practice, and illegal in at least one state, New Hampshire. The nefarious pharmacies that participate in this, such as CVS/CAREMARK also engage in other unethical practices. Find out why the Attorney General in CT is suing CVS/CAREMARK. <a href="http://www.theday.com/article/20091201/BIZ02/312019925/1018" rel="nofollow">More ... </a><br />See also a recent news story about CVS/CAREMARK that aired in Texas for yet even more shady business habits: <a href="http://www.khou.com/news/investigative/Mega-Healthcare-Merger-puts-patients-at-risk--br---71969212.html" rel="nofollow">More ... </a>

A comment on Let's Get Real About Lawsuits and Corporate America and Organized Medicine

My husband was hospitalized for 108 days with burn injuries. His medical treatment was careless. There were mistakes and problems with the way this facility operated that resulted in life-threatening complications to my husband. We never sued anybody, instead I wrote a book about the experience and continue to tell anybody who will listen what happened to us in that hospital. In a cruel twist of irony, the insurance company wound up suing my husband. They didn't think he was burned enough. They came after him with an ARMY of lawyers. This dragged on for years, what a ridiculous waste of money and the very definition of a frivolous lawsuit. They even had a so-called expert, who never laid eyes on my husband, testify over the phone years later with regard to the extent of his burn injuries. They ultimately dropped the case, but not before spending years and several hundred thousand dollars persecuting us.

A comment on Let's Get Real About Lawsuits and Corporate America and Organized Medicine

This is so very true. There is such a difference between those that understand the constitutional rights of the 7th amendment and the important to our society of access to the courts vs. those that truly only want to hide from responsibility. Thanks for pointing out the hypocrisy.

A comment on Advanced Technology Showing How PTSD Alters Brain Function

This is the benefit of creating awareness. New technologies being applied to PTSD research. I am hopeful that a breakthrough will be achieved in the near future. With new information we can start looking at PTSD with the intention of healing it and not just learning to deal with it. We are on the right track.

A comment on Use Social Networking Sites With Caution: You Never Know Who's Looking

Good point Todd. the advice I always give clients is to do what they can and that they will only get in trouble when they lie about it. How often does the "surprise moment" from the insurance companies sneaks get turned aside when there are medical records that coincide with the finds saying " Mr X tried horseback riding yesterday and is now in pain" People should do their best to go on with their lives.

A comment on Women are second class citizens in Bart Stupak's America

The primary function of sex is to make babies. If you can't learn to be responsible for your own choices, no other human being should have to pay for it, especially an innocent unborn child. <br /><br />Spiderman's uncle said it best. "With great power comes great responsibility." Humans have the power to multiply, and screwing around with this power should not lead to punishment of the natural result. :)

A comment on Use Social Networking Sites With Caution: You Never Know Who's Looking

Blanchard said in another article that she used all privacy protections on her FB page. Therefore, I wonder if there are surreptitious ways (skilled programmers, specialized software?) of breaking into FB pages to bypass any privacy protection barrier that employers and/or insurance providers like Manulife are possibly now using. Someone should research this issue and let the rest of us know if that is what happened here.

A comment on Car Crash in Oneida Township Kills DeWitt Teenager

How nice of you to SPECULATE as to what actually caused this accident before the police report is even released. I stumbled on your site by accident while looking for information on Travis Rademacher's memorial service. I was quite upset to read that THIS SITE has taken what little information that has been released regarding the accident, added its own speculations as to the possible cause(s) of the crash, and apparently used this modified story as a spring board to advertise attorneys. BRAVO! Nice way to turn another family's tragedy into a possible profit-making venture for you.

A comment on Teen Became Sick With Guillian-Barre Syndrome After Receiving H1N1 Shot

I work on a physical rehabilitation unit at a hospital near my home. We had a patient with GBS a while back. The main cause of this patients GBS was a type A flu vaccination that had been taken. She was paralyzed from head to toe and is now confined to a wheelchair for the most part. She is able to stand at times but not for long periods of time. My feelings on the flu vaccinations, whether it be for type A flu or for type B (H1N1), is that it is a risk you have to be willing to take. Several people have died from the H1N1 virus and that in itself is a tragedy. I, myself, have decided to not partake in the H1N1 vaccinations. I feel that the vaccination is too new, whether they say it was around in the 60's or not, to take at this point. Every vaccination has a possible side effect involved in taking it but GBS is not something that I am willing to take a risk on. If you want to learn more about GBS go to <br /><a href="http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/detail_gbs.htm" rel="nofollow">More ... </a> <br /><br />This is simply a decision you have to make for yourself. I would recommend for you to do some serious research about the possible side effects of the H1N1 vaccination before taking it. It's your body, your choice. As for me and my household, we will not be taking it. <br /><br />God Bless Jordan McFarland and his family. I pray that he has a speedy recovery and no long term effects of the GBS. You are in my prayers.
